Tom Wynne has worked in the coal industry for over 47 years. Wynne began his career as an underground general laborer for Peabody Coal in New Lexington, Ohio in the summer of 1976. He then worked summers for CONSOL until he graduated in 1978.  

After graduation, Wynne went to work for CONSOL as a mining engineer at their Renton Mine in Pennsylvania and shortly after transferred to CONSOL’s McElroy mine as an underground section foreman. He then went to work for North American Coal as a shift foreman at their Quarto No. 7 Mine and was later promoted to Assistant Superintendent at The Quarto No. 4 Mine. Wynne then joined MAPCO Coal Inc. in 1981 as a mining engineer and held a variety of positions with the company prior to his appointment in July 1998 as vice president of eastern operations.  

After joining, Alliance Coal LLC, Wynne advanced to the position of senior vice president and chief operating officer in 2009. Wynne oversaw the building of almost all of the Alliance operating mines including River View in West Kentucky, Gibson County in Indiana and Tunnel Ridge in West Virginia.  

Wynne has served the coal industry on the National Executive Committee for National Mine Rescue and previously as a member of the Coal Safety Committee for the National Mining Association. In addition, Wynne is a past Chairman of the Kentucky Coal Association.
