Robert H. Quenon has a long and varied career in the coal industry. He began his career with the Berwind Company, later working for Consolidation Coal Company, Pittston Company, Riverton Coal Company and numerous assignments with the Exxon Corporation before being elected as executive vice president of Peabody Coal Company in 1977. Quenon served as chief executive officer of Peabody Coal Company from 1978-1983 and was elected president of Peabody Holding Company, Inc., in 1991. Quenon was very active in his community and was awarded the Erskine Ramsay Medal for Distinguished Achievement in Coal Technology in 1985 by the American Institute of Mining. Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (AIME) and was elected to the West Virginia University Alumni Association Academy of Distinguished Alumni in 1988. After his retirement in 1991, Quenon was engaged in consulting with various domestic and international companies and governments and has been active as a board member of Partners in Economic Reform. Inc. (PIER). PEIR, a private foundation funded by the United States. Agency for International Development has the mission to provide technical and business assistance to the coal industries of the countries of the former Soviet Union.
