Richard C. "Moon" Mullins started his 42-year career in the mining equipment industry following his two years of service in the United States Navy Reserve. During his 37 years with Joy Manufacturing, Mullins has served in many U.S. locations and filled numerous management positions. He started his career in Huntington, West Virginia, and was later transferred to Price, Utah, as sales engineer for Utah and Wyoming in 1973. In 1979, he was named district manager for the Western District with responsibility for all ware­houses and new equipment sales west of the Mississippi River and western Canada. Following a reorganization of Joy from districts to regions in 1980, he was named regional manager for the Western Region with responsibility for the service centers as well as warehouses and new equipment sales. Known throughout the underground mining industry for his knowledge and dedication to the consumer, Mullins built his reputation on personal qualities of service, which benefited both his customers and Joy Mining Machinery. Over his career, Mullins has been active in several industry organizations, including the Key Coal Club, the Old Timers Club, The West Virginia Coal Mining Institute, and the West Virginia Coal Association. He has served the West Virginia Coal Mining Institute as president and chair of the Board of Directors. He has served on the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Coal Association.
