Gary G. White began his career in the mining industry as an electrician in a mining equipment rebuild shop. Gary became employed by the Logan County Board of Education as a mine electrician instructor in its Vocational Education Department. Shortly thereafter he was hired by Island Creek Coal Company as a maintenance training instructor. He continued as an adjunct faculty member for the county conducting certification classes for miners in the region. After having helped a number of employees of Amherst Coal Company become certified, Herbert Jones invited Gary to become director of training for Amherst. During his twelve-year tenure with Amherst, he served as its human resource manager and its manager of underground mining. Gary left Amherst to become president and chief executive officer of the West Virginia Coal Association. He served in that capacity until the spring of 1992 when James H. "Buck" Harless invited him to become president and chief operating officer of International Industries, Inc. At that time, International Industries consisted of Coal, Lumber, Manufacturing and Real Estate divisions in several states. Soon thereafter, Harless promoted Gary to CEO. In 2007, International Industries sold it coal division to Lightfoot Capital Partners, a private equity firm forming International Resource Partners, LP. Gary Served as president and CEO of IRP until the company was sold to James River Coal Company. Gary currently serves as president of the International Resource Partners division of James River Coal Company. White has been honored and has received professional recognition for his many personal activities. These include Business Hall of Fame, Elizabeth McDowell Lewis School of Business, Marshall University 2003; City of Hope "Spirit of Life Award" 2003; Distinguished Achievement Award, Marshall University 2004; Distinguished Achievement Award, West Virginia Education Alliance 2006; Business Hall of Fame, College of Business and Economics, West Virginia University 2007; and named 24th of the "Fifty Most Influential Individuals in West Virginia" by West Virginia Executive Magazine in 2006 and 2008.
