C. Wes McDonald began his career with CONSOL in December 1965 as a section foreman at Turkey Gap Mine in the company's Pocahontas Fuel Division. In April 1966, he was promoted to assistant shift foreman at the Bishop Mine. In July 1966, he was promoted to superintendent of the Newhall Mine and remained there until January 1969 when he took a position with Westmoreland Coal Company as superintendent at Hampton No. 3 Mine.     In 1970, Wes returned to CONSOL as superintendent of the Jenkin Jones Mine. In 1972, he was appointed assistant to the vice president-operations at the southern group of mines for the Pocahontas Fuel Division. In 1973, he was appointed manager of mines at various CONSOL mines until being elected Vice President Beckley Operations in 1975. In 1979, he was appointed Vice President Moundsville Operations in CONSOL's Eastern Region.    Wes became assistant to the president of CONSOL in September 1980 and was appointed senior vice president of engineering exploration and environmental affairs. In 1982, he was elected senior vice president mining for CONSOL's Northern West Virginia Region. In 1985, he was elected executive vice president of operations and remained in this position until retiring in 1999. After his retirement, Wes was engaged in consulting for CONSOL for a year and a half.     During his career, Wes was actively involved with the mining engineering programs at the University of Alabama and West Virginia University. He served on the mineral engineering advisory committees for both universities. He also served on the Capstone Engineering Board at the University of Alabama. In 1988, Wes was honored with the Distinguished Fellow Award from the College of Engineering at the University of Alabama.
